Root canal treatment

  • Avoid chewing hard food on that side until the final filling or cap is in place.
  • Mild soreness for a day or two is normal. Tell us if swelling or pain gets worse.
  • Brush and floss as usual.

Broken or chipped tooth repair

  • Avoid biting hard things such as bones, ice or nuts with the repaired tooth.
  • Tea, tamul and tobacco stain fillings over time, as they do natural teeth.
  • Come in if the repair ever feels rough or chips.

Dentures and replacement teeth

  • Start with soft food cut into small pieces, then build up.
  • Take the denture out and brush it every day, and rinse it after meals.
  • Come back if anything rubs or feels loose; small adjustments make a big difference.

Braces and clear aligners

  • Teeth feel sore for a few days after fitting and after adjustments; soft food helps.
  • Brush carefully around brackets after every meal.
  • Wear your retainer as advised, or the teeth can move back.

Teeth whitening and stain removal

  • Go easy on tea, tamul and tobacco for the first couple of days.
  • Some people feel short-lived sensitivity; it passes.
  • A cleaning every six months keeps teeth brighter for longer.

Scaling, cleaning and gum treatment

  • Teeth may feel sensitive for a few days; this settles.
  • Brush twice a day and clean between your teeth.
  • Come back every six months, or sooner if you smoke or chew tamul.

Wisdom tooth removal

  • Bite on the gauze for as long as you are told.
  • No spitting, smoking or straws on the first day.
  • Eat soft, cool food, and rinse gently with warm salt water from the next day.
  • Call us if bleeding does not stop or swelling gets worse after the third day.

Children's dentistry

  • Brush twice a day with a small smear of fluoride toothpaste.
  • Keep sweets and sugary drinks to mealtimes.
  • Avoid putting your child to bed with a bottle of milk or juice.

Message us straight away if

  • Pain is getting worse after the third day instead of better.
  • Swelling grows, or you get a fever.
  • Bleeding does not stop after 30 minutes of firm pressure on gauze.
  • A filling, cap, bracket or denture breaks or comes loose.
